Bitty poison hemlock silver square necklace

$29.00

All items are handmade and are one of a kind from foraged wild and domesticated plants. I collect whatever is in season on my daily walks, usually in the Philadelphia area. The composition of my pieces range from traditional (using whole, pressed flowers and leaves) to more abstract. Each piece involves laying jewelry-grade resin in several layers, over several sittings. Again, this is a handmade piece, and slight imperfections are expected and not unwelcome.

Backed silver plated nickel-free itty bitty square pendant with black back overlaid with Spirea. Each, as usual, have subtle variations. Finished with a silver plated brass 15 inch chain with lobster clasp.

Conium maculatum is the plant that killed Theramenes, Socrates and Phocion. In ancient Greece, hemlock was used to poison condemned prisoners. Conium comes from the Ancient Greek κώνειον – kṓneion: "hemlock". This may be related to konas (meaning to whirl), in reference to vertigo, one of the symptoms of ingesting the plant.
