Red maple leaf. I’m still a leaf collector, and always will be. I love the colors, the shapes, the infinite variations, the fact that trees use their own body parts to nourish themselves (I often, to many people’s dismay, compare this self-composting to humans somehow being able to nourish ourselves by eating our hair and fingernails. The analogy is a difficult one to make). The beautiful LETTING GO that deciduous trees do each year, shedding all that will not serve them in hibernation season. I admit I am jealous of this ability.

It is one of the greatest grief-provoking practices every year to see humans regard this shedding as “messy”, and not necessary, and this precious biomass as trash, to be collected in black plastic trash bags via diesel-powered leaf blower.

The gorgeous coloration on this singular red maple leaf has been burned away, revealing, too, its impressive form. Solid silver, you can wear it around your neck. Finished with silver connectors and a bit of non-toxic epoxy resin.

This one of a kind pendant was made by layering .999 silver art clay, multiple times, directly on the leaf. During the firing process, the organic material burns away leaving fine detail captured in silver. Art Clay Silver is manufactured using 100% recycled and reclaimed silver.

According to Aida, the Japanese manufacturer of Art Clay, the silver is from athletic wear, eyeglasses, photography supplies, industrial sources, utensils and of course from silver jewelry that has been turned in for reclamation.

Chunky: this piece has heft, and is pure silver. Patinaed and finished to bring out every detail. Finished with a 16 inch long silver plated brass chain with lobster clasp.
